Orthodontics
Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that
studies and corrects malocclusions which may be
due to tooth irregularities, disproportionate
jaw relationships, or sometimes both.
Orthodontic treatment can focus on dental
displacement or can deal with control and
modification of facial growth. Orthodontics can
also be carried out for purely cosmetic reasons
to improve patients smile or face. The
traditional method of orthodontics may begin
with a removable or fixed appliance to begin
correction of bite and or palate followed by
fixed multi-bracket therapy. In this case
orthodontic wires are inserted into dental
bands placed on your first molars held in place
with elastic ties. After active
orthodontic therapy patients will often wear
retainers to maintain the teeth in their
improved position.
