Root Canal Therapy
Today with
a special dental procedure called a root canal
you may save a tooth with a diseased nerve.
Inside each tooth is the pulp which provides
nutrients and nerves to the tooth, it runs like
a thread down through the root. When the
pulp becomes diseased or injured, the pulp
tissue dies. After Dr. Sanchez removes the
pulp, the root canal is cleaned and sealed off
to protect it. Once the root canal is
completed Dr. Sanchez will let you know what
method of restoration best fits your specific
needs.
Endodontic Therapy
Endodontic therapy is a series of treatmenet of the pulp of a tooth the end result is the elimination of the infection and protection of the decontaminated tooth from any future microbial invasion. Although this practice is commonly referred to as a root canal, this term is imprecise; root canals and their associated pulp chamber are the anatomical hollows within a tooth which are naturally inhabited by nerve tissue, blood vessels and a number of other cellular entities, whereas endodontic therapy includes the complete removal of these structures, the subsequent cleaning, shaping and decontamination of these hollows with the use of tiny files and irrigating solutions and the obturation, or filling, of the decontaminated root canals with an inert filling, such as gutta percha and a usually eugenol-based cement. With the removal, the nerves and blood supply to the tooth it will become brittle and may require a crown or "cap" to protect the remaining tooth structure.
